Homemade Food Gifts for the Holidays

As you probably can imagine, the best way into our hearts is through food. Here at Venezia, we think there's something really special about giving homemade edible gifts to friends, family, neighbors, and even coworkers. You're gifting something delicious and putting extra effort in by making it. Lucky for us, not all homemade food gifts require a ton of time. The uniqueness of the presents also lies in the presentation. Here are some of our favorite easy homemade food gifts to give during the holidays.

Homemade FudgeHomemade fudge is one of those treats that seems difficult to make. But, this tried-and-true recipe from New England Today is called "Never-Fail Christmas Fudge" for a reason. It's a snap to make. You don't even need a candy thermometer! Wrap the fudge in festive candy boxes lined with coordinating paper and tie the packages with a beautiful bow.

Hot Cocoa

There are a couple of ways to give hot cocoa as a gift. You can buy premade hot cocoa mix or make your own. This recipe from The Pioneer Woman requires just 3 ingredients. If making your own, mason jars are a good way to package it. Whether you're giving premade or homemade, pair the hot cocoa mix with candy cane stirrers and marshmallows. If you're feeling ambitious, try making your own marshmallows like Ina Garten. One note about that – the marshmallows have to dry out overnight so plan accordingly.

Pasta Gift Basket

No time to cook? Put together a pasta gift basket that will delight any Italian-food lover. Head to your favorite specialty market and pick up a locally-made jar of tomato sauce and fresh pasta or imported dried pasta. Package it in a gift basket with a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. Adding cloth dinner napkins makes a nice touch.

Movie-Night Popcorn

Help make movie night at home better than the theater with all the ingredients for popcorn. Fill a popcorn serving bowl with a container of popcorn kernels, a jar of homemade popcorn seasoning, and a jar of ghee (clarified butter that usually doesn't need refrigeration). Trust us, popcorn popped in ghee is amazing. You can skip making the popcorn seasoning and buy it premade or include some fancy sea salt. Print out instructions for stove-top popcorn to complete your gift.

Flavored Spirits

Nothing says holidays like gifting alcohol. This Orange Infused Bourbon recipe from Southern Living takes 5 minutes and 2 ingredients: navel oranges and bourbon. It does need to sit for a week. If that takes too much time, consider making flavored vodka. Martha Stewart has several recipes that infuse for 1 to 3 days. The magazine's chestnut-and-dried-fruit vodka is so festive. Whether you present the spirits in a jar or bottle, tie a ribbon around it and attach ideas for how to serve it.

Tea and Honey

Is there a tea drinker in your life? Assemble a lovely gift bag filled with local honey, biscuits, a tin of tea, honey jar dipper, cinnamon sticks, and a stainless-steel tea infuser – everything they need for a perfect afternoon tea experience. If you have the time, consider infusing the honey with dried herbs. Here is an easy how-to from the Hallmark Channel.

Homemade Dog Treats

Know a dog lover? They will appreciate a thoughtful gift for their fur-baby. This healthy recipe from Good Housekeeping features spinach, carrots, and zucchini. Wrap the treats in a holiday bag or container and be sure to include a list of ingredients. Some pets may have dietary restrictions.
