Your wedding day. It's one of the most important days of your life so you want to make it as close to perfect as possible. Many brides-to-be (and grooms) freak out early on and ask, "Where should we have the reception?" What do we look for in a wedding venue?" "Where do I even begin?"
Take a deep breath, because help is here. You know what you want to spend but how will you get the most for your money? This wedding venue checklist is a starter's guide to help you decide what's most important to you, and will help you feel more grounded as you begin your search for the best place for your big day.
Size of the Room
In this case, size does matter. How many people do you plan to invite? Find a room that can accommodate your guest list. Don't just look at the room when it's empty, but ask how many it seats once all the tables, chairs, and wedding décor are set up. Some venues have more than one room to choose from so that you can match the size of the room to your guest list. It's always a plus if there is a separate room for cocktail hour and mingling before everyone enters the dining area.
Room with a View
You want your wedding to be beautiful, and a gorgeous view is a built-in way to add a great deal to the ambience -- naturally. Look for settings on the water, high up over the city, or overlooking a beautiful garden. Think about where you'll be taking photos and what the background will be. A beautiful setting will add magical touch to the photos that you'll cherish forever.
Will you be having food brought in from an outside caterer or will you have your wedding at an already-established restaurant? You know that the food is high on the list of importance. Great food, great chef, great service: the trifecta of success when it comes to the meal at your wedding. Read reviews of the restaurant's food and see what people loved or didn't like so much. Even better, dine at the restaurant or ask the restaurant or caterer for a tasting session, and experience the quality of the food firsthand.
Rain or Shine
How awesome would it be to have a crystal ball and accurately predict the weather for your wedding day? *Sigh* -- Mother Nature is pretty fickle so that's not going to happen. And depending on what time of year you get married, the weather can be highly changeable. That's why it's a great idea to reserve a wedding space that works whether it's indoors or outdoors; rain or shine. Inclement weather won't ruin your day if you have a lovely indoor space, and you can take advantage of both on a nice day.
If you're not ready to lose your mind at some point during your wedding planning, you're not the norm. That's why it's very important to book your reception at a site that takes very good care of you. They listen when you change your mind; they make suggestions to help ease the way. Make sure you're very comfortable with them, there should be a solid rapport and an element of trust.
